GPT-5.6-Cyber lands, Nordics must own the defensive stack

OpenAI releases GPT-5.6-Cyber for authorized defensive work, but the Nordics cannot let foreign models own our critical infrastructure security.

NEW MODELS, NEW TIERS OpenAI released GPT-5.6-Cyber today. It is their most capable cybersecurity model, fine-tuned for vulnerability research, exploit validation, and defensive testing. Access is gated: only verified defenders, enterprises, and approved partners can use it. The model is part of Daybreak Red, a new tier inside Trusted Access for Cyber. GPT-5.6-Cyber shifts the performance frontier. On ExploitBench, it matches Mythos Preview with one-third the output tokens. It also introduces binary reverse engineering without source code. OpenAI claims the model lowers refusal boundaries for legitimate defensive work while constraining offensive use. PRICING AND SAFEGUARDS GPT-5.6-Cyber is priced at five dollars input, thirty dollars output per million tokens. Prompt caching is now predictable, with a thirty-minute minimum cache life. Cache writes cost 1.25x the uncached input rate. OpenAI says safeguards are stronger. They designed them to hold under adversarial pressure while preserving access for code review, vulnerability research, and defensive testing. The goal is to make prohibited offensive activity more difficult, uncertain, and detectable. WHO GETS ACCESS Access is iterative and limited. Vetted security vendors, organizations, and researchers can apply. OpenAI has already granted access to U.S. CAISI and UK AISI for evaluation. Nordic partners are not named in the release. NORDIC BUILDERS, NORDIC STACK The network has already decided on sovereignty in education and maritime safety. Cybersecurity is next. GPT-5.6-Cyber is a defensive tool, but it is still a foreign model. It logs every prompt, every output. It enforces U.S. export controls. It can revoke access at any time.
